V. Jesus Administered a Total, Eternal, Irreversible Defeat over Satan
A. Satan’s only option: to obscure the work of the cross
B. No longer able to see the reality of the crucifixion of Jesus (Gal. 3:1ff)
1. Begin to rely on the works of the law, not the sovereign operation of the Holy
Spirit = Legalism
2. Begin to rely on the flesh = Carnality
3. Under a curse (Gal. 3:10 [Jer. 17:5–6])
C. The remedy: Christ crucified (Gal. 3:13–14)
1. Jesus became a curse that we might be redeemed
2. He took our rebellion; He endured all its evil consequences
3. Confess grieving the Holy Spirit

VI. Application of the Cross
A. Delivered from this present evil age (Gal. 1:4)
1. We don’t get it all in this age
2. Satan is the god of this age (2 Cor. 4)
3. Do not be conformed to this present age, especially in our thinking (Rom.
12:2)
B. Deliverance from the law (Gal. 2:19)
1. Our old man was crucified
2. Righteousness not received by keeping rules
3. If you are led by the Holy Spirit you are sons of God (Rom. 8:14; Gal. 5:18;
Rom. 6:14)
4. Map or guide?
C. Deliverance from self (Gal. 2:20)—death of:
1. Personal ambition
2. Denominational rivalry
3. Nationalism
D. Deliverance from the flesh (Gal. 5:24)
1. Flesh = the nature inherited from Adam = rebellion
a. Just one remedy: execution
b. Execution carried out in the death of Jesus on the cross
2. Crucifixion causes suffering to the flesh
3. To suffer the Lord’s way or the devil’s way?
4. Jesus is returning for those who have crucified their flesh
E. Deliverance from the world (Gal. 6:14)
1. The world = those who refuse the just rule of Jesus Christ in their lives
2. The world is crucified to me and I to the world
F. The ship in the sea is all right;
The sea in the ship is all wrong
The church in the world is all right;
The world in the church is all wrong
