This parakeet flew into my backyard last year during the summer months in Southern Ontario. He barely escaped by bird-eating American Eskimo who so far nabbed 3 squirrels a skunk, possum, and caught 3 birds, two of which he caught in mid-flight so... Lucky parakeet he is. In the end, it turned out he escaped through an open balcony door of an apartment building a block or so away from my yard. The story goes, her father accidentally opened a balcony door and the bird took off. They searched all day with no luck. It was just over 24 hours until he flew into my yard and I rescued him and brought him inside for some water and a slice of multigrain bread. He gobbled that up quick.
I promptly started searching for the owner via the internet Kijiji ad. But as soon as I searched lost Bird in Hamilton Bam! there he was with a brief message, "Lost Bird, please contact if found." So I did, and the daughter answered, so I told her I think I have her bird and sent her a picture. She was so relieved and promptly sent her father over to collect him with a cage.
Minutes later, her father arrived, since they are minutes away from my house it didn't take him long. He walks up the driveway with a cage in one hand and $100 cash in the other. Of course, I insisted he not reward me in any way as it was my pleasure to rescue any lost or injured animals. ( I currently have two adopted rescued dogs). But he wasn't having it and overly insisted I taker the money and thanked the hell out of me as a Father who lost his daughter's bird gracefully would.
I totally understood, and away they went. Story over... I'm glad there was a Happy ending for the bird, kinda makes me want to get a bird now. But owning a dog who looks at birds like snacks.. meh, maybe in my senior years, we'll see. lol.
Bonus: You get a great view of the inside of my nose for a few seconds
