The Doolittle Raid, led by Jimmy Doolittle took place on August 18, 1942, when 16 B-25 Mitchell bombers took off from the USS Hornet CV-8 and headed to Tokyo, Japan, seeking revenge for the December 7, 1941, surprise attack on Pearl Harbor. Airmen landed in China, where civilians and guerrilla fighters gave them aid. 69 Doolittle raiders went home to their families. Seven others died heroes. Four spent the entire war in prison. The video also contains footage from inside a B-25 named Maid in the Shade. This video honors the daring men who followed Doolittle on a mission most thought was a suicide mission. This video contains the story of Doolittle and the 80 raiders, with footage I filmed of Maid in the Shade, a B-25 that flew 15 missions in November and December 1944. Maid in the Shade tours the country as part of the Commemorative Air Force located in Arizona and is one of only 34 B-25s still capable of flying. Check your local airport to see if Maid in the Shade might be coming to visit you. I highly recommend seeing this piece of history.
