Failed experiment PS4 to DVD player

I had a lot of fun trying to hook up my girlfriends PS4 to our portable DVD player, and trying to hook it up to my laptop. While both did fail the test I had a blast trying. My TV stick for my laptop uses a ATSC signal while i'm pretty sure that the PS4 is some kind of digital signal output. I only spent a few dollars on the HDMI to AV splitter so it was no big loss. This splitter is in no way a signal converter so I was pretty sure that this test would be a fail, but I had a blast trying it.
