Annie Chapman: The Life of Jack the Ripper’s Second Victim (Ripper Victims EPISODE 2)

Annie Chapman was murdered on September 8, 1888, eight days after Polly Nichols (her life is covered in episode 1.) Her murderer is most famous for having remained a mystery for 133 years, and people have obsessed about the identity of notorious serial killer Jack the Ripper ever since. This video series focuses on the women he killed. They were daughters, sisters, wives and mothers. Annie came from an upper working class family. Her father and husband worked for, and were trusted by, powerful men. She should have had a happy and economically comfortable life. So why was she sleeping on the streets in Whitechapel? This video tells you why.

This is episode 2 0f the Jack the Riipper Victims series. The main source for this book is “The Five” by Hallie Rubenhold. I highly recommend you read it. It is fabulous, and argues that little evidence exists to suggest that Jack killed prostitutes. There is little evidence that four were practicing organized prostitution at all in the period around their death, and were asleep when killed. Read it and decide for yourself. Personally I found her arguments compelling.
