In response to the outbreak of the human disease COVID-19, a major emergency has been declared in South Australia.

To reduce the spread of COVID-19 within South Australia, on 22 March 2020 the State Coordinator made a Declaration of a Major Emergency under the Emergency Management Act 2004.

The Governor of South Australia has approved a further 28 day extension of the existing Declaration of a Major Emergency commencing on 8 January 2022.
