Harmony // The Art of Building Progressions

In video #6 of this "Harmony" series, I show you how to build a song by combining multiple progressions. This way to can extend the music as is flows through harmonic space.

You see, not all songs are like "Blue Suede Shoes," "With Or Without You," and "Island in the Sun." These are all excellent tunes, of course. But their chord progressions are very simple and repetitive.

So what most musicians do is use more than one progression in different parts of a song mix things up and add some variety to their music. And I show you how using Van Morrison's "Brown Eyed Girl." (And the power of ColorMusic is visualize all of these patterns and concepts.)

Songwriting is fun when you can actually see what you're doing. I use the familiar patterns of color to explain music theory so you can write songs.
