Why & How I Rinse My Pouch | Get More Wear Time | #Ostomy Tips

Rinse the pouch (bag?)

If you have an ileostomy you know our pouches fill up more liquidy than a colostomy may. So, it can be a challenge to stay hydrated (see my other video on that) but also, it can get pretty heavy.

Even if it isn’t liquidy sometimes the output sticks to the top of the bag. Sometimes what we eat is in enough itself sticky and therefore harder to remove via the neck of the pouch.

This was becoming a problem for me fairly quickly postop because constantly trying to “move the stool” out (when it wasn’t pure liquid) was killing my hands.

I decided I was going to start rinsing which makes my life a whole lot easier and hurts my hands a whole lot less!

I also find that I gain longer wear time.
