how to sell more online business

If you're like most people, then when you think of "sales" or "salesperson," you probably associate words like "greasy," "sleazy," "manipulation," "used car salesman," and so on.

That's because we've experienced this kind of sales first-hand...maybe when buying our first car, or getting approached randomly on the street, or at our front door or with a telephone call that interrupts dinner.

But at the same time, as an online business owner and marketer, you know that sales are critically important, right? And so it's sorta like feeling stuck...you know how vitally important sales are for your business...

...but on the other hand you don't want to be that high-pressure dirt-ball like the guy who tried to get you to buy new aluminum siding. So how do we rectify all this? Well, I have some great news:

First, everything we've discussed here -- sleazy sales strategies, high pressure tactics, heavy-handed closing and all this stuff...everything you might be thinking sales is...isn't selling. All this stuff is more like, "what amateurs think selling is." But this isn't selling at all.

Second, the internet has changed everything. It's exposed, or is in the process of exposing, fraud, manipulation, and all sorts of methods and tactics that used to work. The internet is shining the light of truth in all sorts of different ways.

Manipulators and frauds are being outed. In fact, often they're outing themselves! It's not just that consumers are getting smarter -- and they're DEFINITELY educating themselves A LOT more -- they're also seeing first hand the truth about things coming to light.

So all this manipulation and heavy handed garbage no longer works and it's a losing strategy going forward. Really, the "new" form of "selling" is really an older, much more traditional form of "sales"...if you can even call it that.

Imagine a time before the internet...even before mass media and television. Where did you go to buy your groceries, your baked goods? Where would you go to get advice about your taxes? You'd go to local shops and businesses...who were people you trusted.

And it was in their best interests to genuinely help you, guide you, and serve you...because otherwise, word would spread fast and they'd be out of business. And this is exactly where things are heading...we're headed back to small town USA...but with high speed internet connections.

But what does any of this have to do with increasing sales in your online business? Everything, actually. Think of your business and your website as a small corner shop in small town USA. If you genuinely care for your customers, if you guide them, help them, and serve them...then word spreads.

There's no "selling" in the mass-market, heavy handed way that we might think. So online, we need to redefine what we think "selling" is...and take it back to it's original meaning.
