Americans in Atlanta, Ga., and Washington, D.C. marked Martin Luther King Jr. Day by marching to demand voting rights.

The Democrats have vowed to push ahead with debate in the U.S. Senate Tuesday on two voting rights protections, The John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act and the For the People Act.

But the bills face defeat in the senate after two key Democrats, Sens. Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema, said they would not vote to change the filibuster rule.

The rule requires that 60 of the 100 senators agree on most legislation in a chamber where Democrats hold only 50 seats.
