Calcium is important to add to a laying hen's diet. Just like we need our calcium to help grow strong bones, chickens need it as well.

Chickens need the added calcium to create hard egg shells. If chickens do not get enough calcium they can lay eggs with soft shells or no shells at all. Sometimes you will notice your chickens laying eggs with thin shells. Chicken eggshell problems are a sign that they need more calcium.

This is a cost effective calcium source for chickens. What can I give my chickens for calcium?? Oyster shells or eggshells are an excellent source of calcium for chickens. We place the eggshells or oyster shells in a separate container for the chickens to eat it when they need it. We don't add it to their feed.

In our opinion eggshells are the best free calcium supplement for chickens. Hope this helps you on your journey raising chickens.
