Seven Churches Part 7 - Revelation 2:24-3:9 - Revelation Study

Revelation 2:18 says “To the angel of the church in Thyatira write: These are the words of the Son of God, whose eyes are like blazing fire and whose feet are like burnished bronze. I know your deeds, your love and faith, your service and perseverance, and that you are now doing more than you did at first. Nevertheless, I have this against you: You tolerate that woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophet. By her teaching she misleads my servants into sexual immorality and the eating of food sacrificed to idols. I have given her time to repent of her immorality, but she is unwilling.”

Jesus is upset with the church for tolerating that woman Jezebel for misleading his servants into thinking sexual immorality and the eating of food sacrificed to idols was alright. Basically, the eating of food sacrificed to idols has to do with the superstition that if you eat certain foods offered to certain gods, those god's will protect you, or bless you, or prosper you.

I don't believe the scripture means those committing adultery with Jezebel specifically, but those who commit adultery along with her will suffer intensely. Notice how the words are directed at our actions: I will repay each of you according to your deeds! This is an interesting point we ought to consider. With God there's no distinction between our deeds and our faith. It's like James wrote, show me your deeds and I'll know your faith; show me your faith and I'll figure out your deeds.

We find in scripture that there's no distinction between faith and deeds because God reads the heart and knows the source and the motive for our deeds.
