Beginning of the end of the COVID pandemic?

Omicron is spreading very quickly in India. In Delhi it accounted for 84% of cases in the past two days. But there is a silver lining. Data from UK, based on nearly 11 lakh patients shows Omicron is 50% less likely to lead to hospitalisation and 66% less likely to result in ICU admissions, when compared to the Delta variant.

More importantly, those with two vaccine doses are 65-70% less likely to need hospitalisation, while those with a third booster dose are 80-90% less likely to need it. This means Omicron could run through the population of any country very quickly, but cause very few severe cases. It could well be no different from seasonal flu which causes many deaths every year. This could be the beginning of the end of the COVID pandemic.
