Osprey feeding a young chick

We always hope that all of the chicks will live to adulthood, but please keep in mind that some of them may not. When food is scarce, famine threatens, and larger osprey chicks adapt by escalating sibling rivalry - silicide is another aspect of osprey biology that helps the eldest chick survive even under difficult circumstances. The chicks are likely to live together without incident as long as there is enough food to go around.

Predators such as raccoons and other raptors occasionally consume osprey chicks, thus threats can come from outside the nest as well. From their fantastic view point, we will keep an eye out for predators. They'll do everything they can to keep the ladies safe.
