Kazakh: Gunfire Erupts on Streets of Almaty as Law Enforcement Moves In

Security forces have begun a counteroffensive to reclaim the streets of Almaty on Thursday as witnesses reported gunfire and military vehicles apparently transporting troops towards the center.

The Interior Ministry has reported 18 security officers have been killed in the riots so far with a further 748 injured, while a Sputnik correspondent was shot in the leg.

The violence has spread to other cities, with fist fights reported in Taldykorgan gas stations and internet blackouts confirmed by RT’s Igor Zhdanov in Nur-Sultan.
