Feasting With The King; 2Sam. 9:1-13

Delivered during the New Year's Eve Service, 12/31/2021. In this New Year's Eve meditation, we will continue our tradition of highlighting a story in Scripture of those who find their backs against the wall and are forced to move forward into the future God has planned for them. This year we will focus on the story of Mephibosheth as he stands before David the king. As the son of Saul he would normally be killed or even tortured as the sole contender for his grandfather's throne. But as the son of Jonathan, he will be overwhelmed by the sheer grace and redemption he will be shown instead. We will compare this situation to the graphic images we have been studying in Luke's fourth and fifth chapters, and indeed with our own situation as one day we will likewise stand before a Holy God. Ultimately we will realize what an awesome privilege it is to be invited to feast at the King's table, both in the "here and now" with Communion, and in the "not yet" at the Wedding Feast of the Lamb.
