Canada was just ranked as the 2nd best country in the world. Canada made great contributions and sacrifices in the First World War. Our many achievements on the battlefield were capped by a three-month stretch of victories at the end of the war during what came to be known as “The Last Hundred Days.”
Everyday, approximately 400,000 people and $2 billion in goods and services cross the Canada-U.S. border. Canada has the (9th) ninth-largest economy in the world as of 2020, with a GDP of $1.64 trillion in USD.
As a founding member of the United Nations, Canada is committed to the guidance provided in the UN Charter to maintain international peace and security, develop friendly relations among nations, and to achieve international co-operation.
Canada is a global leader in Refugee Resettlement and served as the co-chair of the 2020 Annual Tripartite Consultations on Resettlement and the Chair of Global Task Force on Refugee Labour Mobility.
Terrorism has become a global threat. Canada spent an estimated $18 billion fighting in Afghanistan and trying to reconstruct the country. The war took the lives of 158 Canadian soldiers and wounded or injured more than 2,000 others.
In 1976, Montréal became the first Canadian city to host the Olympic Games. The XXIst Olympiad, held from 17 July to 1 August 1976, included memorable performances from many world athletes.
Canada is globally known for being a welcoming and accepting country and now it is being recognized as one of the most diverse countries in the world.
