The United States has been sliding into socialism, as the idea grows in popularity among younger generations and in public policy. Yet this is actually not a new phenomenon. According to Kevin Hassett, former chairman of the president’s Council of Economic Advisers, this has been something going on for a long time, and the Trump administration may have tried to stop it. In his new book, “The Drift: Stopping America’s Slide to Socialism,” he defines it as a battle between freedom and socialism.
