This is the eleventh of a series of short videos on Low dose Medicine and in particular Cytokines. This video introduces the cytokine TGF β , the anti-inflammatory and tissue repair cytokine.
Transforming growth factor beta (TGF-β) is a protein which controls proliferation, cellular differentiation, and other functions in most cells.
TGF-beta is secreted by many cell types, including macrophages and Th2 and Th3 lymphocytes.
TGF-beta stimulates fibroblast proliferation, angiogenesis (especially in connective tissue) and therefore is involved in different stages of healing and connective tissue regeneration with powerful regulating action on inflammatory events.
