Washington (AP)-Wednesday's Biden administration extended the student loan moratorium, allowing tens of millions of Americans to postpone their debt payments during a pandemic. The
bill will suspend payments for federal student loans until May 1. During this period, interest rates will remain at 0% and debt collection efforts will be discontinued. These measures have been in place since the pandemic began, but are scheduled to end on January 31st.
President Joe Biden said a financial recovery from a pandemic would take longer than a job recovery, especially for those with student loans.
"We know that millions of student loan borrowers are still dealing with the effects of the pandemic and it will take some time before payments resume," he said in a statement. He added that it was an important issue for him and the Vice President.
