Can Tho International Airport in Vietnam.
Airports in Vietnam are very clean and quite small.
Can Tho airport was built in the 1960s with a runway of 1800m x 30m. Then completed by the government of the Republic of Vietnam in February 1961 with the help of the US government, initially named Binh Thuy Air Base. This is a military airport of the Republic of Vietnam Air Force, then the US Air Force also used this airport for jets and heavy transport. Due to the location of the airport near Tra Noc bridge and Tra Noc communal house, people here also call it Can Tho Airport or Tra Noc base.
After 1975, the airport was still managed by the military. In the period 1977-1978, there were flights connecting Tan Son Nhat with Can Tho, but due to low efficiency, the airport was temporarily closed from mid-1978. In the following years, this place used to be used as an apartment. From time to time, F-5 and A-37 aircraft of the Vietnam People's Air Force attacked Khmer Rouge forces during the Southwest Border War. After these trophy planes were retired, it was only a military helicopter base.
It was not until 2001, a project to restore and put Tra Noc airport into service for civilian needs with the new name of Can Tho Airport. The restoration was carried out in 2005. On January 3, 2009, after nearly 4 years of repair, the domestic terminal was officially put into operation. On January 1, 2011, Can Tho airport became an international airport.
