How Venezuela's Economy & Society Collapsed. Guest:Venezuelan Activist & Economist Daniel Di Martino

In 1950, Venezuela was the Fourth Richest Country on Earth. It was richer on a per capita basis than every country in Europe except for Sweden. Today, Venezuela is poorer than many African Countries and failed states such as Zimbabwe, Congo, Syria or Haiti.

Venezuela also has the largest oil reserves in the world. Yet despite this incredible advantage, it bears no resemblance to the extremely wealthy petro-states such as Dubai, Qatar, Kuwait or Norway.

In addition, Venezuela is now among the most dangerous countries in the world and its capital city, Caracas, is the most dangerous city in the world.

How did it go so wrong for Venezuela? What role did the Socialist policies of Hugo Chavez and his successor (Nicolas Maduro) play in Venezuela's societal and economic collapse.

Ashton is joined by Venezuelan Freedom Activist & Economist Daniel Di Martino to discuss what happened to Venezuela and what lessons the United States needs to learn from it.
