News: Suddenly it feels like March 2020 all over again. A new, super fast variant, confusion, fear, long lines at testing facilities, panic buying (of rapid tests this time, not toilet paper), being alarmed that a scratchy throat means you have it, epidemiologists urging us not to go to parties. Then there’s not being sure about whether you will be able to cross borders or get on a plane, being fearful about hugging elderly relatives, being unsure about whether your business will open, if your cashflow will hold and if you will get financial support if it shuts.

We have been here before. The thing that connects this moment with the early stages of the pandemic is confusion, panic and people going their own way, doing their own thing.

On Monday, as the Omicron outbreak surged, New South Wales premier, Dominic Perrottet, announced his government was not reintroducing public health measures, such as indoor mask mandates. Instead he called for people to exercise personal responsibility.
