Off Road Camper
I'm Dave, and I designed a low-cost, lightweight multi-passenger off-road camper that is also street legal. The goal of this notion was to create a practical trans-formative concept that was affordable and already had proven capabilities.
Just in case the stuff hits the fan, I converted two motorized mountain bikes into a multi-passenger off-road bug out camper.
From April to December 2020, we started with two motorized bikes built according to manufacturer's specifications and performed a 500 km break-in period as suggested (Approximately 8 months).
The engines are still functioning smoothly. Thank you very much. Reliability was excellent based on actual test results. I didn't expect them to endure that long. Now I'm convinced.
Thin walled 3/4 steel piping was used to connect two bicycles. A water-resistant canvas tarp was added to the top structure as a sun screen and weather protection. The tarp is secured to the frame with a screen mat that is folded under with bungee cords. To save even more weight, replace the canvas covering with fiberglass and utilize aluminum conduit.
On the frame was also a multi-passenger back bench. I threw in a few hammocks for good measure. Velcro strips, zippers, or hooks secure an all-around drop-down curtain used as a shower privacy tent. On the top structure, a water bladder might be installed. If necessary, a load carrier can be added with a Pad Lockable storage box placed behind the passenger seat.
The lightweight vehicle is powered by bicycle petals, a 2 stroke gasoline engine, and/or a Brush less DC (BLDC) front wheel electric motor attached to a 48 volt lithium battery pack that is charged by a solar panel. The gas is controlled with the right throttle, while the BLDC is controlled with the left throttle.
It was possible to lift the off-road camper over fences and across rivers. This camper has the ability to negotiate more issues than the rest of the campers combined. That is what distinguishes it. With regular off-the-shelf supplies, it's inexpensive, easy to repair, build, and assemble, and it's ready to go! It's feasible to disassemble the kit and store it in the garage, plus it gets great gas mileage! In my state, there is no requirement for a driver's license, registration, or insurance. For those with any mechanical ability, this may be a fantastic project.
