Smoky Mountains Backpacking: Miry Ridge, AT, Eagle Creek, Gregory Bald

A seven day backpacking trip in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, beginning at Elkmont and taking the Jakes Creek Trail and Miry Ridge Trail to backcountry campsite #26. On day two we continue up the Miry Ridge Trail to the AT and camp at Derrick Knob Shelter. Continuing on the AT over Thunderhead Mountain and Rocky Top, we then take Eagle Creek Trail down to backcountry campsite #97 to camp on day three. On the fourth day we continue down Eagle Creek Trail to Lakeshore Trail and then up Lost Cove Trail and down Twentymile Trail to Long Hungry Ridge Trail to campsite #92. The following day we continue up Long Hungry Ridge Trail to Gregory Bald Trail to campsite #13. On the 6th day we backtrack on the Gregory Bald Trail past Long Hungry Ridge Trail to the AT and then take the AT to Russell Field Shelter to spend the night. The final day we take Russell Field Trail to Anthony Creek Trail to the parking area at the beginning of Cades Cove where we have a second car parked.

This trip totaled 52 miles with about 11,000 of aggregate elevation gain.
