Thinking Thru Scripture Ep 8: Solomon and the Splitting of the Kingdom in Two - Squandering Promise

Today's discussion leads us to 1 Kings chapters 9 to 11. We are looking at the third king of Israel, named Solomon, and his oppression of fellow Israelites as well as his violent, false worship of foreign gods. Solomon is not shaped by Yahweh. He is shaped by greed and power, which eventually lead to oppression and the people's crying out to God for the injustice that is in the land. It is this sin that becomes Solomon's legacy and to which God responds when Israel is divided in half and the largest portion goes to another. The kingdom is no longer united. Solomon's sin is great. He is the first evil king (by name) of many.
