"Five Pounds of Possum" has become a cult classic in the world of Bluegrass Music, covered by everybody from the Tennessee Mafia Jug Band to the Ridgetop Ramblers, the Moron Brothers and more. This one, however, is the original by Tim White and Troublesome Hollow. This new music video commemorates the 25th anniversary of the album "The Possum Tapes," a collection of quirky songs celebrating the animal that has long been beloved and scorned throughout the South. Written by Tim White, the describes the situation of a poor family struggling to survive. The song is from the perspective of the father who just lost his job and is trying to feed and provide for his family. As many did during the Great Depression of the 1930s, the father in the song resorts to eating possum. The album "The Possum Tapes"' is available on Amazon.
