Part 1, Dumb and Dumber, the shining, Stanley hotel cross country trip in a Jeep

Starting mileage is about 150,300 miles, anding 157.600. Driving cross country in the JKU was not bad at all, nothing like the old jeeps.

First real stop (I did not drive straight through) is the Stanley motel. What a beautiful and eerie place all in one! We did the tour (not haunted tour) stayed in 213 which was part of the original suite broken into 3 rooms including the famous room 215

Dating from 1909, this grand hotel famous for its role in 'The Shining' is 4 miles from Rocky Mountain National Park.  http://www.stanleyhotel.com/

Traditional rooms in the main building and an adjacent lodge have flat-screens, free Wi-Fi and iPod docks. Some add Jacuzzis and courtyard or mountain views; others are allegedly haunted. The 1-to 3-bedroom condos feature air-conditioning, whirlpool tubs and fireplaces; a luxe cottage has a private deck.

Complimentary perks include continental breakfast and parking by reservation. In addition to 2 fine-dining restaurants (1 with patio seating), there's a cafe and a whiskey bar. Spa treatments and ghost-themed tours are on offer.
Then hit Estes Park, a quaint little town below the hotel with plenty of shopping!

Now off to Maob, I had no idea what to expect, I researched what I could online. Just my wife and I on the trip. Wish we did a whole week at Moab, there are so many trails to explore, even a week you would not have enough time. Here is how we did it.

First thing I recommend is joining the Moab friends for wheeling group on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/groups/478376492216414/?ref=group_header
Many of the members helped me out on deciding what to do there!

2nd is a good GPS and the Moab “guide to Moab back road and 4 wheel drive trails” newest edition http://amzn.to/2Ch8RV6, you'll need it because you will lose cell signal when you are out there. 3rd is know your vehicle, and know its capabilities.

First time off-roaders would be fine on the easy trails and some of the moderate, but most the hard trails you need extra clearance, more articulation and sometimes lockers. A winch is also a good idea if you go it alone like we did.

Heater core fix. Which acted up again and I bled it, good again.

Work done so far on the Rubicon MW3:
I repaired the sway bar disconnect.

Found out the clock spring is under extended warranty through Jeep, so it is replaced free if defective. So is the left cylinder head...

Mountain goat series 3” spring lift and some Joyroad MT200 35” tires. They work GREAT! This is the 2nd Jeep I installed them on (CJ7) and I think they are GREAT!.
