(E11) Abandoned Torrington, CT Drive-in exploration on the DRZ400s and DRZ400sm. Asbestos?!

One shot Johnny and I explore the old abandoned Torrington Drive-in (Burrville, CT) on the DRZ's, small easy place to get to. I am pretty damn sure those are asbestos boards as the movie screen! (Yup, they are), I've seen them before in a factory I worked in years ago.

We visit Big Zeke The Beard (follow him on YouTube and Insta) and he shows us his new place! Talk about the differences between the DRZ400 and DR650.

Do a bit of exploring and find a NOT SO abandoned house, LOL... the McDonald for a burger and home ..

From 1950 to 1981The Torrington Drive-In operated in Burrville, CT. designed as a one screen theater It held over 400 cars. the property is occasionally used for ct bike week meeting point. This land was considered a site for the Litchfield County Courthouse, but of course did not happen.

It WAS asbestos! “In the early days of driveins, screens were made of wooden telephone poles covered with a base screen surface of plywood sheets then overlayed with ASBESTOS tiles or cement board. Later screens were made of steel "I" beams with a metal framework to support a corrugated metal surface. The wooden screens had problems with termites, carpenter ants, and dry rot. Wood screens also blew down in windstorms very easily. Metal screens are very rugged with many guaranteed to withstand 100 mph winds. “
