Altenwalde Heath is a nature reserve and recreation area in the SW part of Cuxhaven (Lower Saxony, Germany) with a military past, commemorated by the brown painted tank tread to the right of the scenic bench.

After introducing Altenwalde Heath and turning around the observer's position in order to look in several different directions the decline of the sun and the progress of the evening is simulated until after nautical dusk. At times, the sky objects and landscape label (gazetteer) features of Stellarium are demonstrated. Watch the planets Venus, Jupiter, and Saturn appear during twilight and Venus and the waxing crescent moon (age 04d) setting when night falls upon Altenwalde Heath.

Watch this video in Full HD resolution (1080p) and full screen mode for best viewing experience.

The moon is enlarged 4x for better visibility.

Some relevant times:
21:46 Sunset (Venus appearing already before sunset)
22:34 End of civil twilight
23:50 End of nautical twilight
Astronomical twilight lasts the remainder of the night, no complete darkness
00:12 (Jul 18) Moonset

The whole sky is artificially produced by Stellarium, the open source planetarium software available on www.stellarium.org.

I created the hi-res (16k pixels) landscape used in this simulation from a series of 128 photos taken on 2017 Aug 29 in Cuxhaven, assembled and fitted together with Hugin, the open source panorama creation software.

The illumination of the landscape according to daylight, twilight, and night is fully handled by Stellarium automatically.
