Stewart Copland & grooves of Mideast .Mp4

Stewart Copland of the post punk era became inspired heavily by Middle eastern rhythms and used them frequently with his band The Police ..In this video I am quoting the drumming from the smash hit song "The Beds to Big with out you." In this song Stewart chooses a beat that he knows very well and places it beautifully inside of Sting's bass line. The drums are a little busy and the bass line is sparse. Stewart being conscious of the music makes sure he is not stepping on the vocal melody and still provides the groove you can not ignore.
The genius here is that the drums sound like they have flipped upside down and if fact that is just what happens, and when Stewart goes into a straight 2,4, back beat you instantly feel the gears changing and very smoothly Stewart goes back to his middle eastern groove with out missing a hitch. I love the drums being used in unconventional ways and the Police changed the the game setting the bar a little bit higher with there recordings..
