The straight testimony which causes the shaking is the unvarnished truth concerning the
Laodicean condition, and contains a threefold divine remedy. (14) Positive response to-this divine initiative involves both exalting “the standard” of truth and obedience to it, which results in purifying the believer in preparation for Christ’s coming. A faith activated by man’s own will lays hold of truth by obedience. That faith’s subjective response to the objective gift thus determines one’s security (15) is indicated below:

“The message to the church of the Laodiceans is a startling denunciation, and is applicable to the people of God at the present time…. The Lord here shows us that the message to be borne to his people by ministers whom he has called to warn the people, is not a peace and safety message. It is not merely theoretical, but practical in every particular. The people of God are …in a [Page 297] position of carnal security. They are at ease, believing themselves in an exalted condition...,In a sad deception, yet honest in that deception… (I)t is the True Witness who speaks.” (16)

Det rette vidnesbyrd, der forårsager rystelsen, er den ikke-udsmykkede sandhed om den laodiceanske tilstand og indeholder et tredobbelt guddommeligt middel. (14) Et positivt svar på dette guddommelige initiativ involverer både ophøjelse af sandheds "standarden" og lydighed mod den, hvilket resulterer i at rense den troende i forberedelsen til Kristi andet komme. En tro aktiveret af menneskets egen vilje griber fat i sandheden ved lydighed. Troens subjektive reaktion på den objektive gave som således bestemmer ens sikkerhed (15) er angivet nedenfor:

”Budskabet til Laodikeas kirke er en overraskende bebrejdelse og gælder for Guds folk på nuværende tidspunkt…. Herren viser os her, at det budskab, der skal bæres til hans folk af forkyndere som han har kaldt for at advare folket, ikke er om fred og sikkerhed. Det er ikke kun teoretisk, men praktisk i alle enkeltheder. Guds folk er… i en [Side 297] tilstand af kødelig magelighed. De har det roligt og tror på sig selv i en ophøjet tilstand ..., I et trist bedrag, men alligevel ærlige over dette bedrag… (I) t er det sande vidne, der taler. ” (16)
