Today, we are working on this 2005 Jeep Liberty KJ which has a loud grinding noise coming from the front. We'll take a look and see how much replacing the front wheel bearings and hubs will improve the ride quality in this vehicle.

We would love to have you join our 2StallGarage family. Tell us what you've got going on in your shop, driveway, parking lot, or wherever you are working.

What are we doing today?
Replacing both front wheel bearings and hubs.

What are we using to complete the work?
Slide Hammer Set
Impact Drill
Common Hand Tools: Wrench, Sockets, etc.
Jack & Jack Stands
Torch (to heat up rusted bolts)
New Wheel Bearing & Hubs combos from Rock Auto.
Bearing/Hub Part# WJB WA513177
Bearing/Hub Part# WJB WA513176

Do you have any concerns about today's work?
We are hoping the bolts that hold the hubs on will come out. We did not have a 12 point 11mm socket to complete this work which is called for, however, if you have an 11mm standard socket, you can make it work by heating up the bolts to reduce the amount of necessary torque to free them.

Why did you decide to do this?
Loud noise coming from the front and into the cab is affecting the ride quality. The ABS & Brake Lights are also lit up on the dashboard.

Any advice for others experiencing this issue?
Replacing wheel bearings and hubs or both can be very expensive. You can do this on your own with some simple training/researching. Just make sure you have the tools needed to do the work and be safe. Always use appropriate jacks and jack stands together to ensure you don't get hurt during your work.

We saved over $680 by replacing these wheel bearings in our own shop (just a 2 stall garage).

How are you going to fix this issue?
We will replace the hub and wheel bearing at the same time on both sides. Jeep simplified this one by putting them together and using 3 bolts to secure or remove them. Thank you Jeep.

What's your favorite thing about working in the shop?
Ensuring the job is done right while saving money, which in turn, helps provide for my family. More and more, I am enjoying engaging in our 2stallgarage community of doers. Thank you for watching today and God bless.

What would you improve, if anything?
I would have preferred to have that 12 point 11mm socket required to remove the 3 bolts securing each hub.

Any additional thoughts?
We complete this work in a small 2 stall garage with limited space. You can do anything you would like to do, no matter the space you have, just plan accordingly and adjust your plans to the size of your workspace. We Believe In YOU!

What's coming to the shop in the future?
DIY Professional Window Tinting Job You'll Love For Cheap.

Are you able to do lots of work in a limited space?
Yes, without question. The biggest issues I face in our 2 stall garage is organization. Keeping the workspace organized and both stalls clear of clutter really helps with motivation, which then helps with productivity. Basically, if I see a clean workspace, I'm much more ready to dive into a project or even just scheduled maintenance like today's oil change.
