How / What to practice with my partner ??

what is the most effective way to practice together?

Do some homework before hand ? Contemplate what do you want to work on and improve? (Footwork, routines, body rolls)
If you have recorded some previous group classes go over that footage. Rehears it without music, really break down the steps, And then add music to this move you're learning and finally, just let the music play and do a few dances with a playlist and see what happens. You might suddenly come out with your own creative move and explore that for a bit, or come up with a short choreography together so you can pull it out during social dancing.

The only way to master something is to do it thousands of times,

A game you can play with your partner is to take a footwork/styling routine and take turns to see who can do it 5 - 10 times in a row without making one mistake.

Don't forget that you get better at whatever you devote time to. Even if it's just half an hour of doing basic, you're still solidifying that and one day will turn up with an impressive basic. Hope it goes well 🙂

A rough outline or blueprint:

1. 1-3 warm-up dances
2. Find some stuff I'd like to learn: sequence from an online classes, a past festival or a video on youtube
3. Break it down and learn all of it
4. Practice without and with music
5. Repeat

If you are taking an online class : the follow can practice on the styling part while the lead improve the leading so you can both make it in music.
It's important to keep it fun and not too serious (except if you are training for a competition).
Very important as well: talk to each other. Don't hesitate to ask her if she feels the leading or if you have to add something somewhere (or she'll be anticipating everything). To make sure it works, you can have moves with different follow-up so you really have to make the leading clear and she won't be able to anticipate as much.

When you're learning more and more stuff, a good thing is to try to put older practice sessions moves into your dances so that you don't forget.

Incredibly beneficial to record and see the result. It helps you fix everything (posture, stupid faces, etc.).
