The IGB has Racing Regulations, which include betting and prize money rules, as well as doping policies and requirements for race officials.4 In 2011, the Irish government passed the Welfare of Greyhounds Act, which establishes standards for certain greyhound breeding operations as well as general welfare requirements for housing, transportation, and record keeping.5
At Irish tracks, 2,146 greyhounds were injured and 715 greyhounds were died between 2015 and 2020.6
Greyhound racing betting is legal in Ireland. The IGB licensed tracks' turnover, or the amount gambled by gamblers, was €23 million in 2019.7 Since 2010, the turnover has decreased by 30%.8
