Spanish 102 - Learn Stem-Changing Verbs in the Preterite in Spanish - Spanish With Profe

In this video you will learn stem-changing verbs in the preterite in Spanish.
In the preterite or el pretérito the ONLY endings that will stem-change will be the -ir ending and ONLY for:
él, ella, usted, ellos, ellas, ustedes
the "o" goes to "u"
the "e" goes to "i"

PLEASE NOTE: In the preterite or el pretérito there will be NO stem-changing for the verbs ending in -ar and -er.

Remember that you will need to put the verb's endings in the past, follow the chart below:

-ir
Yo -í
Tú -iste
Él, ella, usted -ió
Nosotros/as -imos
Ellos, ellas, ustedes -ieron

pedir (to ask, to order) e to i
(asked)
yo pedí
tú pediste
Él, ella, usted pidió (change "e" to "i")
*Nosotros/as pedimos
Ellos, ellas, ustedes pidieron (change "e" to "i")

*(Use key words: ayer (yesterday) anoche (last night) to differentiate between the present and the past in the nosotros/as form)

dormir (to sleep) o to u
(slept)
yo dormí
tú dormiste
Él, ella, usted durmió (change "o" to "u")
*Nosotros/as dormimos
Ellos, ellas, ustedes durmieron (change "o" to "u")

¿Qué pediste ayer en la cafetería?
(What did you order in the cafeteria??
Yo pedí ensalada. (I ordered a salad.)

¿A qué hora te dormiste anoche?
(At what time did you fall asleep last night?)
Anoche me dormí a las nueve de la noche.
(Last night, I fell asleep at 9pm)
