Spanish 102 - SE Constructions in Spanish for Beginners Spanish With Profe
In this video you will learn SE constructions in Spanish.
In a previous lesson you learned that le/les before lo/la/los/las becomes "Se," and also reflexive verbs use a form of "se" for the third person singular or plural. To review here is a link for that lesson. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JsZCWWc0J8o
In today's video we are going to talk about two uses of Se.
1-We are going to use "Se" for impersonal constructions.
For "SE" impersonal, use se + verb in the 3rd person (s/pl) + noun (s/pl)
For this part use the verb in the present tense
-ar=a, an, -er/-ir=e, en
Se compran libros usados. (We buy used books here.)
compran (pl)=libros (pl)
Se alquila casa. (House for rent.)
alquila (s) = casa (s)
The verb will agree with the noun they are modifying, so if the noun is singular you must use the singular form of the verb, if the noun is plural then use the plural form of the verb.
2- In Spanish we use "SE" for accidents. We do not blame ourselves for unplanned events, but rather we blame the item/s for those things that happen out of the blue.
Use SE+ Indirect Object Pronoun (me, te, le, nos, les) + verb (3rd person s/pl) pretérito + noun (s/pl)
We are the victims of all of these accidents.
Se me perdió el gato. (I lost the cat.) (The cat lost itself from me.)
perdió (s) = gato (s)
Se les perdieron los gatos. (They lost the cats.) (The cats lost themselves from them.)
perdieron (pl) = gatos (pl)
Se nos cayeron los huevos. (We dropped the eggs.)
cayeron (pl) = huevos (pl)
Se te olvidó la tarea. (You forgot the homework.)
olvidó (s) = tarea (s)
Once again the verb agrees with the item/s so they will be singular if the noun is singular, and plural if the noun they are modifying is plural.
