1800s Abandoned Factory Ruins (Cinematic FPV)
This is probably the best find to date for an epic New England FPV cinewhoop spot. We found equipment and artifacts dating back to the 1860s. The detail of the cast iron gear and the use of ceramic bearings reminds us that ingenuity does not require computer aided drafting or CNC machines. American Engineers and Scientists will always be able to find solutions to our challenges, even if they aren't sponsored by a Fortune 500 company. The type of person who is drawn into the DIY nature of FPV will also have this curiosity and determination, something that education alone can not teach the youth.
As an Engineering student we were exposed to all forms of technology, but as part of the metal casting course, we were required to create molds and complete functional castings. The techniques we first used remained unchanged from early times, including playing in sand, carving metal channels and using the library of stick-on lettering that becomes the identifying markings on gears, manhole covers, machines, etc. To see the 1860s date and location of Orange, MA included in the gear brought me back and reinforces that this world would be nowhere without that innovative spirit, and cookie-cutter "talent" is not enough to cut it.
