Groundwork training with colt

I decided to do some groundwork training with gunner today. The first part is controlled lunging. The second part is free lunging and the last part is teaching him to drive with long lines. Usually I would have saddled him up for this type of training. As you can see I’m trying to get him to keep his head up so that he does not get the rap the lines wrapped around his legs. With a saddle on him and run the long lines through the stirrups to keep them from falling down between his legs. He has really done very good with all of his training, the little it has been. Horses are a herd animal therefore they enjoy having a leader. Sometimes it looks like I’m just bossing him around or running him around but it’s all about who is the leader. After I got finished working with him and turned him loose instead of him running off because he didn’t like being worked with, he followed me to the gate and stood staring at me wanting me to come play with him more. I consider it work he considers it play. Either way it’s all about him learning.
