1971 Johnson Evinrude 9.5 horsepower outboard lives again, repair, restore. Me and my Johnson

Picked up a 1971 ( I was told 69) Johnson 9.5 horsepower outboard to use on the rowboat, possibly bring to Florida and find a row boat down there.
This outboard was not running, previous owner claimed it stopped runnning, would not start and he just stored it away many years ago. I Replace the impeller, check carb to clean, but its spotless. Checked spark and spark plugs, checked the thermostat. Wires to the stop switch were falling apart so I will replace that with a tether stitch. Put gas in it and it fired up!

OMC filed for bankruptcy on 22 December 2000. It has been owned since 2001 by the Canadian firm Bombardier Recreational Products. Bombardier stopped selling outboards under the Johnson brand after 2007, and moved all sales entirely to Evinrude Outboard Motors until they were discontinued in June 2020
