I don’t often get super wet boots, but I do like my share of winter snow activities and I usually just let my damp footwear dry naturally. However, several weekends ago, my boots got very wet after a day hike where the trail zigzagged across a stream a total of 14 times. Naturally, my mind starts thinking, how do I get these to dry fast enough to avoid mold and mildew, while not subjecting my cloths dryer to heavy boots? I know, lets build a boot dryer!

The best place to find plans to build something like this is the internet and more specifically, YouTube. After a quick search I found a video from the Rated Red channel making a boot dryer using some PVC pipe and an electric air mattress pump. It looked easy enough, but I didn’t want to spend a lot of money. Even though these plans would probably set you back no more than $30 to $35, I wanted to spend even less. So, I thought about what did I have at the house that I could use as a pump. When I finally realized that I had an old CPAP device in my closet that I no longer used, I knew there was a reason I never threw it out. Since building the dryer I’ve used it 3 times and it works beautifully. This was an easy project and fun enough to satisfy my continuing need make things.
The source for the original build can be found below and the Rated Red YouTube channel.
