House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is forced to summon help getting up after she kneels for 8 minutes and 46 seconds to honor George Floyd, wearing Kente cloth from Ghana's Ashanti tribe, at the U.S. Capitol in the Hall of Emancipation on June 8, 2020. Pelosi has been widely criticized for using the Kente cloth, since it has not particular link to black Americans. In fact, the Ashanti Kingdom supplied human beings from other regions of Africa whom they subjugated, to Dutch, English and other European traders.

Complete facts: Ghana's first president wore kente when he was released by British imperial authorities from prison in 1951. The Congressional Black Caucus has worn kente before (in Trump's first speech to Congress) as a symbol of resistance.
