Gluttonous anaconda got into an awkward situation

Brazilian biologist Daniel de Granville has been familiar with snakes since childhood, and now he not only studies them, but also organizes photo tours for nature lovers. He considers the anacondas to be a particularly interesting subject. These aquatic snakes are also found in the Amazon, but the water there is very muddy, and in the Bonitu region, where Daniel works, the rivers are very clean.

Recently, during one of these expeditions, the group noticed a giant anaconda (Eunectes murinus), which had eaten so much that it stretched out to an impressive size - and lay motionless in the water, digesting its prey.

Anaconda hunts according to the same principle as a boa constrictor: it waits motionlessly for its prey, and then grabs it with a lightning throw and strangles it, wrapping it in rings around its body. The reptile swallows the victim whole, while strongly stretching the mouth and pharynx, after which a long process of digestion begins. And although the anaconda's object of interest may be fish and other small representatives of the fauna, it will not miss a larger target. So it happened this time: apparently, the victim was a capybara or another mammal.

The abundance of food supply allows Brazilian anacondas to easily find food, but the consequences can be unpredictable. Just a few weeks later, in the same region of Bonitu, representatives of the environmental service carried out an operation to free another voracious anaconda: after a hearty meal, her body became so huge that she got stuck in the coastal branches.

Experts cut the branches, but the snake even moved with difficulty - its huge body did not allow it to swim.
