In The Pines (Traditional Folk Song)

I met a man when I was singing at Dollywood who requested "In The Pines," and I had only ever listened to Leadbelly's version and come across covers on YouTube, but never had covered it, so, sadly, I couldn't do it for him. I can now honor the request. So, Billy, I hope you enjoy this video!

I was interested to learn that, although the author is unknown, "In The Pines" is known to have originated in Southern Appalachia, and, on a personal note, I was interested to learn that one rendition of the song was recorded in Lookout Mountain, Georgia, an area I have passed through since I was a little girl on the way down from my home in Nashville to my grandma's house in Villanow, GA (North Georgia.)

This weekend I performed at the Ringgold Depot Opry (Ringgold, GA,) and while I was waiting in the wings of the historic 1849 depot, I decided to record "In The Pines," also known as "The Longest Train."
