A disturbing trend continues: the high number of suicides by people who served our country. There have been several studies trying to find the root causes and solve this epidemic of Armed Forces veterans taking their own lives. London Center for Policy Research Distinguished Fellow Navy Captain (Ret) Pete O'Brien discusses this in a special Veterans' Day edition of Thought to Action.

From a recent piece by Capt. O'Brien titled Left Behind: "The “Department of Defense (DoD) Quarterly Suicide Report (QSR),” details that from April 1 to June 30 of this year, a total of 139 Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Marines committed suicide, 99 “active component,” 14 reservists, and 26 National Guard. Of note, 60 of the 99 were Army."

In the video and article, Capt. O'Brien discusses the need to help veterans coming home from overseas re-adjust to civilian life in the US, important mental health services and resources for service people who are battling depression or have contemplated suicide and their families.
