Most businesses misunderstand the purpose of email...if they've even gotten themselves to start building an email list and use email marketing in their business...two absolutely crucial and very often overlooked components for online businesses.

And yet even if a business has begun using email...again, it's often misunderstood. Most businesses who use email use it only send one kind of email -- promotional email! You know what I'm talking about, right?

It's like, you sign up for this website's newsletter or opt-into their mailing list or whatever, and now all your getting from them is relentless sales emails, promotions, and one-time offers.

The only thing worse than this is an online business or website who sends these emails...but only once every six months or so. When these land in our inbox, they look like spam don't they? ... cuz we've forgotten all about them. "Who is this? I didn't sign up for this junk!"

So yes, you will use email to sell and to send offers...but just not all the time. Instead, the true purpose of email is to build credibility, to demonstrate to your subscribers that you know what the heck you're talking about...and that you can help them get the results they want.

Email marketing is all about guiding your subscribers, providing value to them, and establishing trust. And no, this doesn't happen overnight. Like all relationships, it takes time. If you're in a rush to make a ton of money...maybe try Vegas? Hahaha!

Email is all about building and developing an honest relationship with your audience over time. You do this by empathizing with where they are, with the problems and issues they face...and by guiding them and providing helpful content.
