Isaiah Meanderings (12): Ch 9 - The Arrogant Promise, We'll Build Back Better - With No Repentance

Ch 9 has two different interesting story lines. Initially, there is a celebration that a new King is coming (Hezekiah). There will be life in the land. This proclamation is a harbinger for the Messiah, Jesus, as well. These are beloved lines as sung in Handel's Messiah...Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace (shalom, well-being and meaning in the midst of life). Isaiah 9 opens speaking words of hope into the imminent fall of Israel.

This, then is followed up by God's clear criticism of the soon-to-fall northern nation. Their demise is, indeed, imminent - but they do not repent. They proclaim themselves able to build back better with no repentance. But God clearly condemns this hypocrisy . They are not going to achieve the victory they are seeking - they are lying to themselves.
