Will Smith has talked out about his youngest son Jaden's heartbreaking request to become an emancipated minor at the age of 15.

In his forthcoming memoir Will, which will be released on November 9, the actor, 53, discusses the encounter.

The actor wrote openly about how the incident left his "heart devastated" in an excerpt posted by People.

After their 2013 film, After Earth, bombed at the box office, the Hitch actor explained that it happened. 'After Earth was an atrocious box office and critical failure,' he said. Worse, Jaden was the one who suffered the hit.

'Fans and the press were vile, saying and printing things about Jaden that I refuse to repeat. I had guided Jaden into the biggest public mauling he'd ever endured, and I had faithfully done all I'd directed him to do.'

'We never discussed it, but I know he felt betrayed,' the Men in Black actor stated. He believed he had been mislead, and he had lost faith in my leadership.

'When Jaden asked about being an emancipated minor when I was 15, my heart broke. He eventually decided against it, but it's awful to feel like you've wronged your children.'

With his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, he has a son, Jaden, who is now 23, and a daughter, Willow, who is 21.

He also has a 28-year-old son, Trey, whom he welcomed into the world during his first marriage to Sheree Zampino.

The Fresh Prince of Bel Air star has been dropping bombshells about his life, including how he 'fell in love' with his co-star Stockard Channing during a 'rocky' phase in his first marriage.

The Suicide Squad star also said that he considered murdering his own father to avenge the brutality he saw his father perpetrate on his mother when he was a child.

In the trailer for his next YouTube series, Will Smith: The Best Shape of My Life, the actor can be seen 'discovering a whole lot of hidden things' about himself.
