2014 SCORE San Felipe 250 - Highlights

Its night time in San Felipe and most racers have crossed the finish line but its Mother Nature who won this weekend. With a large storm waiting in the distance it was a matter of time before it left its mark on the race course. Word got down from teams prerunning Friday that rain was hitting the northern part of the course. Early in the morning it was deemed that the summit was impassable, so Roger Norman made the call to reroute the course at Valley T. Instead of going left heading up the goat trail and to the summit, racers would make a right down to the Borrego area and go 12 miles of old course and reconnect to race mile 224.

In all the reroute took away 59 miles of race course, but the decision still gave racers a course to race on despite the weather. The start of the 4 wheel vehicles was delayed 2 hours due to the bikes being stopped at Borrego while the new section was being marked, making sure they had enough time to finish before the lead vehicles would close in.

Starting second off the line BJ Baldwin would pass Ryan Arciero in the first 30 miles and wouldn't look back finishing physically first followed by Rob MacCachren, Juan Carlos, Troy Herbst, Tavo Vildosola, Tim Herbst, and Steve Eugenio.

The interesting part comes with time splits. At the very start of the race there was a safety delay as Juan Carlos rolled a few miles into the course and after 5 trucks had started the race, SCORE made the decision to pause the start to make sure there weren't any safety issues with spectators. Close to 19 minutes went by before the race resumed again giving the first 5 trucks (Juan Carlos would get back going) a gap with the rest of the field. Tavo Vildosola who started near the back of the trophy trucks finished 35 minutes behind BJ Baldwin, but if you factor in the 19 minute gap in time, and that he started 22 spots behind BJ he should win on corrected time. Of course this is all unofficial until SCORE releases there results with adjusted times and any time penalties. As soon as we get results you'll see them here first.
