FLASHBACK: 250,000 Peruvian women were forcibly sterilised in the 1990s

From 1996 to 2000, up to 300,000 women underwent medical sterilisation in Peru. This happened under former President Alberto Fujimori and happened largely without the consent or even the awareness of the women involved, who were primarily rural, indigenoius women.
